Since racist Donald Trump was elected, bias incidents have spiked 400 percent in New York City. The most recent case proves that Trump inspires these xenophobic attacks. Last night three white thugs assaulted an 18 year-old Long Island woman wearing a head scarf at 10 pm on the 6 line and excused their criminal behavior by shouting, “Donald Trump! Donald Trump!” and “Terrorist! Get out of this country.” She moved to the back of the train. They lunged at her and broke the strap on her bag. She fled the train at the 23rd Street station as they snarled, “Get that fu…g hijab off your head!”
The woman reported the incident to the police, who are looking into the event but have not made any arrests so far. Has racist Donald Trump decried these events? No. Are we surprised? No. Ironically, but not surprisingly, his supporters foam racism at the mouth when they deny that Trump is a racist.
In a Facebook post, the woman wrote: “It breaks my heart that so many individuals chose to be bystanders while watching me get harassed (sic) verbally and physically by these disgusting pigs.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)has denounced this event and stalwartly urges representatives and governors to condemn and take action against this violence in our public sphere. “We’re horrified by the incident in and of itself,” said CAIR’s Afaf Nasher. I share his
“overwhelming empathy because we know that this is not the only person who has been assaulted in mass transit, but also on streets.”
