If there is no struggle, there is no progress. …This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. --Fredrick Douglass Henry A. My uncle Lars (not his real name) was troubled for much of his life. He had three daughters by two mothers. Well after his daughters were grown, with children of their own, he impregnated a young Mexican woman--let's call her Elena--and then had her imprisoned on charges that she was harming "his" … Continue reading Are Pregnant Women Persons? Here's a very interesting article in the Guardian about the radical, paradoxical suffragette, stockbroker, clairvoyant, and publisher, who ran for president before women could vote. For a shorter version of her story, read this at History.
The university recently decided to keep John C. Calhoun's name on one of its residential college buildings. Calhoun, a brilliant, devilish orator, claimed that slavery was "a positive good," tightening the shackles on millions of children, women, and men.

Have you tuned into Brigitte Gabriel yet?
Christian extremists have not quite taken hold of the country, but they pose an emergent, lethal threat to women, men, and children in the United States of America. They do not constitute the majority of Americans, who largely trust women to make their own decisions about their reproductive health. Nevertheless, a vocal and fiercely religious minority have gained ground in state and federal legislatures and in right-wing media conglomerates such as Fox News and Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal, which host women-haters and homophobes on a regular basis.
